Unlike traditional wall cladding systems—where the layered build-up contributes both thermal performance (U-value) and weather protection—rainscreen systems operate on a different principle.
In a typical rainscreen setup, the primary weather barrier is a sheathing board, securely attached to the building’s structural frame. Joints are sealed using EPDM membranes to ensure watertight integrity. The support carrier system, which bears the weight of the rainscreen panels, is anchored through the sheathing board and into the steel framework. Once this structural base is in place, insulation and cavity barriers are installed, followed by the final application of the selected rainscreen material.
