About Project
Quantum Facades has been appointed to deliver the design, supply, and installation of high-performance cladding and roofing systems on a prestigious new development located in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. This vibrant district, known for its creative energy and architectural ambition, sets the stage for a façade solution that meets both aesthetic and regulatory demands.
The cladding works feature a fully A2 fire-rated rainscreen system, incorporating Genius Flat Panels for a sleek finish, 100mm Rockwool Duo Slab insulation for enhanced fire and thermal performance, and the Fastframe envelope bracket and rail system to ensure structural precision. These elements are installed across the main building elevations, private residential balconies, and the prominent soffit area at ground floor level.
For the roofing package, Quantum Facades has specified the Fatra FF810 mechanically fixed warm roof single-ply membrane for the main roof, offering robust waterproofing and energy efficiency. Balcony areas are treated with the FLS Shield cold-applied liquid system, providing seamless protection in areas requiring intricate detailing.
This comprehensive envelope solution reflects Quantum’s commitment to quality, compliance, and architectural excellence in one of Liverpool’s most dynamic urban settings.
Our Client’s Challenge
Delivering a high-specification façade and roofing system within a dynamic urban development like the Baltic Triangle presents several key challenges for the client:
- Compliance with Fire Safety Regulations
- Ensuring all external envelope components meet A2 fire rating standards in line with post-Grenfell legislation.
- Coordinating design and installation to satisfy Building Control and warranty provider requirements.
- Complex Architectural Detailing
- Integrating rainscreen cladding seamlessly across varied building geometries, including:
- Main elevations
- Private balconies
- Ground floor soffits
- Achieving a consistent visual finish while accommodating structural tolerances and movement joints.
- Waterproofing & Weatherproofing
- Delivering robust waterproofing solutions for both the main roof and balcony areas, each requiring different systems:
- Single-ply membrane for large roof spans
- Cold-applied liquid system for intricate balcony detailing
- Managing interface details between cladding and roofing to prevent water ingress.
- Programme Coordination
- Aligning façade and roofing works with tight construction schedules and multiple trades on-site.
- Minimising disruption in a densely populated city centre location, with limited access and logistical constraints.
- Design Integration & Supply Chain Management
- Coordinating with architects, engineers, and suppliers to ensure:
- Timely delivery of bespoke materials
- Compatibility between framing systems, insulation, and cladding panels
- Managing lead times and potential delays in a volatile materials market.
RESULTS
Quantum Facades takes a strategic and collaborative approach to meet the challenges of the Baltic Triangle development. From the outset, the team engages closely with fire consultants and building control to ensure full compliance with A2-rated fire safety standards. This results in the selection of Genius Flat Panels and Rockwool Duo Slab insulation—both rigorously tested and certified for fire performance.
To address the architectural complexity of the project, Quantum works hand-in-hand with designers and engineers, using advanced 3D modelling to coordinate the integration of the Fastframe bracket and rail system. This enables seamless installation across varied building geometries, including balconies and soffits, while maintaining a consistent visual finish.
Waterproofing remains a critical focus. The main roof features the Fatra FF810 single-ply membrane, chosen for its durability and weather resistance. For the balconies, Quantum specifies the FLS Shield cold-applied liquid system, ideal for intricate detailing and long-term protection.
Programme coordination is managed through dedicated site teams and just-in-time delivery scheduling, streamlining installation and minimising disruption in the busy city centre environment. To mitigate supply chain risks, Quantum secures early procurement of key materials and maintains regular communication with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and system compatibility.
This comprehensive, detail-driven approach ensures the client’s vision is realised with precision, regulatory compliance, and enduring performance.
